  • "The reason I am writing is to thank you for the part you played in creating a positive experience for me as a contestant at the TGSF Cotillion. As you know, the whole crossdressing phenomenon has a lot of mystery involved. Why do we do what we do? Who knows! I can tell you that whatever the reason, one of my dreams has been to own a beautiful sexy beaded evening gown and to look fabulous in it. I realized that dream at the Cotillion during the evening wear competition. The corset you sold me not only helped me get into my gown, it gave me a beautiful hourglass silhouette! Thank you so much for that experience. Fondest regards." Jennifer Anderson (Miss Congeniality 2005; Ms. Transgender San Francisco 2006; photo above right (c) Jeanette Vonier 2007)
  • "I just saw your segment on the Discovery TV program "Sex Change" and was so impressed with your work. (Ann and client Michelle at the filming, seen left and below). I am a trained psychologist and personal stylist and have had my own color/coaching business for over 15 years. I found your work playful, compassionate and so hands-on helpful at such a transformational time in a person's life." Barbara Carroll (Petaluma, 5/3/09)
  • (From a genetic female corset client)"My Salon A far exceeded my wildest dreams; I expected to be ugly (but was not). For 'first timers' you have the subject mix just right." Alison (6/10/09)
  • "I just saw you on the program called "SeXchange" on the Discovery Channel, speaking about transgender issues. It was wonderful. I was like, 'I've been in that living room, and she is every bit as personable as she appears on the screen.' How fortunate we all are to be your clients, Ann. I really mean that."
    Tee (3/14/05)
  • "This year into early retirement, with my TG feelings getting stronger all the time, I finally decided that it was time to do things properly and liberate Rita. I had been dealing with ROMANTASY (exquisite corsetry :-) in San Francisco, and as well as clothing they do gender image salons, so I took the plunge and spent a wonderful evening with an expert makeup person seeing what could be done with me. I told them I would settle for the "frumpy dowager" look, but I think they did a little better than that. I bought a wig, in a fantastic shade, which I like to call sunny auburn, and was completely overwhelmed by the image that finally appeared before me. It was an intense experience to find that Rita really did exist physically, and that she had an image which I would never have imagined, and which was very satisfying to me at least. What was most satisfactory about my evening with the empathetic and helpful people at ROMANTASY was that I came home with some fairly detailed notes and instructions that will help me to work on recreating what they did for me." Rita (6/2000)
INTRODUCTION: Our wonderful transgendered friend and corset model Jennifer, above, and other clients quoted on this page, provide perfect examples of the wonder and rewards of the adventure into gender roles and reversals, of which we at ROMANTASY are proud to be a part! Our life is especially blessed and made more pleasurable by the opportunity our clients give us to serve and learn from them.

SPIRITUALITY AND TRANSFORMATION: Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of all our gender image services is to experience and share the wonder of our client's adventuring soul as she pursues a dream they may have long held but suppressed. There does seem to be an aspect of the spirit that is tapped during part of each interaction, a moment when pure joy comes to the surface and we are all of us, just a group of friends sharing love and encouragement and moving very close, in a safe environment, to who we really are, accepting ourselves, accepting the other. We like to think we make it all right to be who you are, and for us to be who we are. Sort of a mutual admiration and exploration society. Please call us if you'd like to find out more.

IN-PERSON SAN FRANCISCO SERVICES: LOCATION and LOGISTICS: For Salons, we will meet in a comfortable private residence in the heart of a small, very special and friendly San Francisco neighborhood. Your Salon will be conducted there, while shopping services will involve a quick trip by underground rail to the Union Street area. Lounge or dining excursions will also be accessible by underground rail. If you have time to explore before or after your appointment, just one to two blocks away, you will find casual restaurants with superlative foods and atmospheres, from coffee shops to a bakery to a French Bistro to a gourmet pizzeria. You may also visit our modern branch library, and locally-owned shops such as a well-stocked European Deli, a unique gift boutique, an organic grocery, several nail salons, a tanning spa, a workout gymnasium, and more.

PARKING AND TRANSIT: We offer easy, free parking without time limit in front of our location. You can also reach us easily via convenient public transportation, bus or BART (our underground rail), either of which stops from one to two blocks away.

SALON ATMOSPHERE AND APPROACH: You will enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and refreshments. We are delighted to serve both individual clients, as well as couples with the Significant Other or wife in attendance. Our special approach is provide "LEARN-DO-PRACTICE" information. We do not just make you over; we teach you techniques and give you opportunity to practice at the Salon. We send you home with exercises to practice to improve specific aspects according to the Salon topic you choose.

We approach our service seeing you as a team member who knows best what he or she desires to create and what is within the realm of the possible in terms of what your lifestyle will permit once you leave the Salon. While you may never dress again, we hope you do! Thus, we work with you to co-create from the inside out, a realistic or glamorous but always comfortable, feminine and elegant image suitable for either a day or evening public appearance. To the right you may see images 'before' and 'after' a makeover (by Monica Grace) of our client, Michelle, from Portland. Michelle was sponsored at our Salon A and filmed by Discovery TV.

SALON PREPARATION: To prepare, we will send you a confidential questionnaire once you book and make the appropriate payment. Your answers to the questionnaire will help us tailor-make our meeting to address your particular interests goals, and experience level.

SALON ARRIVAL: You may feel comfortable to arrive, shop and dine en femme or en drab, since you will always be welcome to our friendly neighborhood and in public establishments we recommend. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your Salon or social occasion if you need to dress, and in order to be oriented to our program.

SALON MATERIALS: At the Salon we provide a invaluable workbook that's filled with quick references to the information covered in your specific Salon, and indispensable supplementary information you'll use again and again. You also receive charts, lists, handy reference forms, and other. For example, we might include a swatching face chart of your makeup colors, a list of products and makeup brushes we recommend, makeup tip summary, a local tg-friendly shopping resource list, a written summary of fashion styles and colors that balance the genetic male body toward the feminine, an outline of proper etiquette for social and dining occasions, and a summary of feminine movement plus safety tips when dressed en femme in public. Finally, participants in any Salon will receive a CD-Rom about a week later of "before" and "after" images taken, like some of our clients viewed below.

SALON CORSET APPOINTMENT ADD-ON: Salon participants may book another hour or two for $50 (normally $100) to try-on, discuss and order a corset (the perfect hourglass-creating garment for presenting the authentic female silhouette). You will receive a 10% discount on any corset order if placed on the day of your Salon.

PRACTICE AFTER SALON MAKES PERFECT: We approach our Salon not just by "doing for you"--as do many other makeup services, but more importantly, we teach certain skills and specific technical and product information at the same time. This enables you to return home, practice, and implement the skills and techniques you learn at the Salon. In enables you to shop effectively and efficiently, making wise decisions that help you look your best and not waste resources filling your wardrobe and makeup drawers with inappropriate garments or products. In addition, if you are local or will be traveling again to the Bay Area, be sure and join those of us who love dressing up, at one of our famous "Corset Soirees," or let us know if you would like to model at one of our occasional fashion shows, such as that held at "Carla's" in San Jose, seen here.

ONLINE SERVICES: We conduct this service by email. After registration, our initial response typically is sent within a few days of your registration. However, timing may also be affected by our out-of-state business commitments or holiday schedules. To be most effective, upon registration please send us email and list specific questions you wish addressed, in order of importance. At that time also email or snailmail the photographs we request. After our initial response you may practice our recommendations and in no more than one month after our response, send up to six improved images for our final feedback.

PRESENTATIONS AND WORKSHOPS: We are available to travel to different cities in the US and present a one-plus hour workshop on various gender-related topics. Our workshops are practical, insightful, entertaining and informative, eliciting lively audience participation, and many post-workshop positive responses and evaluations.

REGISTRATION AND REFUNDS: You may register for any of our in-person or email gender services or programs by full advance payment below. Please note that your registration fee is non-refundable. However, appointments may be postponed with a 48-hr. advance notice; we are happy to reschedule it within three months. After that your registration fee will be applied to cover our prior scheduling and administrative costs, and another fee will be required to re-book. Please email us or call to establish your reservation date (415) 587-3863.

YOUR CONSULTANTS AND PRESENTERS: ROMANTASY owner Ann Grogan teaches the subjects of figure contouring, fashion update and color, and feminine movement. She will select the proper additional consultant from our staff to provide the section on makeup and color analysis. Ann had counseled many thousands of her corset and transgender clients regarding body image, figure-control, and liberating the sensual and feminine spirit since opening her lingerie and custom corset business in 1990. She is well-known and respected in the gender community as someone who is beyond non-judgmental; she is fair-minded, joyful, and encouraging of all to adventure more in life to find its many rewards. She lectures at many national transgender and other conferences (Mensa; Lifestyles, BayCon) on issues of permanent waist-trimming with corsetry, style, fashion, and "how to get read" as MTF, based on past years of research on this matter. From grammar school until her early 20s she trained as a ballerina and modern dancer in the Martha Graham technique (eight years of dance classes) and also trained at the San Francisco Patricia Stevens Modeling School on fashion and runway modeling. At the end of high school, she was chosen to be in the top ten from over 50 candidates for Miss California State Fair, representing her title as Miss Contra Costa County.

Along with makeup consultant, Monica Grace Molton, left, above, and below, Ann was featured on Discovery TV conducting a Salon and shopping at Nordstrom's in downtown San Francisco with Sarah Michelle, seen above with Monica during makeup. Sarah was just beginning her journey into femininity as a MTF transsexual. You may see how she blossomed in a lovely 2008 photo at the right. Her prominent segment was included in the respected two-part series, "SeXchange."

Monica Grace brings 22 years of experience in her field starting in Hollywood. She's styled Ricky Martin, Fergie (Dutchess of York), Chayanne,Ellen Thatcher, and our local San Francisco mayor, Gavin Newsom, among others. She's also worked at several major San Francisco hair and makeover salons. She has participated in numerous Gender Image Salons since 1995. She is a California licensed cosmetologist. Monica's expertise revolves around both hair and makeup services, with special focus on creating illusions through sophisticated and subtle contouring techniques. Her skill level and results are extraordinary. ROMANTASY frequently books Monica to provide professional makeup and hair styling for our corset models such as our web person and model Lydia, seen right. Advanced clients as well as novices would particularly appreciate Monica's knowledgeable approach, sophistication, and her fun-loving nature.

We are very pleased to announce as of 2008 the addition of Kristine Bur'get, owner and manager of her own Hair Salon in the popular SOMA (South of Market) area of San Francisco. You can see Kristine left, and below with Ann at her Grand Opening Celebration fall, 2007. She's a corset client, one of Ann's hairdressers, and a bubbly personality who will make you feel right at home!

AND A CONCLUDING WORD OFFERED BY ONE OF OUR CLIENTS:

"I am a crossdresser and I agree with Ann 100% about wearing corsets! When I started wearing them (it didn't happen overnight) in time, I went from a 29-inch waist to a 25-1/2-inch waist--permanently, and achieved a stunning figure. There is another thing: corsets have done wonders for the shape of my legs. But corsets aside, a lot of crossdressers tend not to pay attention to the fact that beauty comes from within! If you feel like a beautiful woman on the inside, that will come shining through and be projected to the outside!"
To which we say: "A-Woman!"
