"The other business selling Swiss lacing ribbon wasn't actually cheaper with shipping added and I would prefer the great range of color choice at ROMANTASY. Thanks!" Heather (6/16/15)

TYPES OF CORD AND RIBBON FOR CORSETS, WEDDING GOWNS, AND PROM DRESSES:

We stock in and offer three types of lacing cord or ribbon:

  • Traditional shoelace-like cord in black or white
(pictured below in first row of images)
  • Double-faced Swiss satin ribbon in 5/8" widths
(pictured to right and below in the second and third row of images), and
  • Double-faced US or Chinese polyester ribbon in 5/8" widths
(pictured below right on this page on denim corset laced in two tones of pink satin).
  • A fourth type of suitably-strong cording comes in some corsets, namely, rolled polyester cording. This is pictured below in the fourth row of images, however, we do not stock this for sale.

In addition you may find corsets not made by us, delivered with satin cording (pictured below in the fifth and final rows of images). We find that satin cording is not suitably strong, thus we do not lace our corsets in this nor stock it for sale.

WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF LACING FOR CORSETS?

There truly is no one "perfect" type of lacing cord or ribbon for your corset. Most are suitably strong for general purposes, and even for "tight-lacing" or waist training. You can easily experiment to find out which type you prefer.

For example, shoelace-like cording may be easier to lace down in a waist-training foundation corset, while ribbon lacing is prettier and more fashion-forward for outer-wear corsets.

Note that ribbon is suitable not only for lacing, but for embellishing and covering the tips of garter clips as pictured below on the purple silk corset garters straps.

DESIRABLE STRENGTH FOR CORSET WAIST TRAINING:

We've been asked which of the above is stronger, better, or more durable. From our personal tests and those of our many thousands of clients we can answer that shoelace-like cord is perhaps the strongest. However, unless you are a serious "tight-lacer" and wear your corsets many hours each day, most likely any of the options we offer are suitable for your corset.

SWISS VS. CHINA- OR US-MADE RIBBON:

We've been asked if the Swiss ribbon is worth the slight upcharge, and our answer is unreservedly "yes"! It is more substantial and has a finer or silkier "hand" or feeling than ribbon produced in China or the US, and it comes in a wide variety of truly luscious colors pictured above right, left, and below in the second and third row of images.

Don't neglect to scroll all the way down on this page to see the chart of the specific colors available. Note that we stock in most of these colors, but may have to special order for you.

Chinese-made ribbon is pictured in the second row besides the beige shoelace cord. NOT ALL COLORS ARE IN INVENTORY; PLEASE SEND EMAIL TO BE SURE, AND QUOTE ANY FIRM DELIVERY DATE NEEDED.

Chinese- and US-made ribbon is more limited in available colors although you may request the color you desired using the chart at the bottom of this page, and we will reply if we can or cannot provide it.

Thus, you may want to decide your purchase based more on aesthetics of the lacing cord type, rather than what we consider only marginally "better."

    LENGTH TO ORDER:

When you order lacing in one color (note two intertwined colors are shown right, thus you must place two orders, 1/2 of one color and 1/2 of the other color), the rule of thumb for slim figures, is to purchase at least one yard to a yard-and-a half per three grommets (counted down one side of your corset in back).

If you are full-figure, purchase at least 2 yds. per three grommets.

In addition, if your corset is new and you are new to the mechanics of self-lacing (see our self-lacing device the "Lacissant"), you may wish to order two more yards.

    MINIMUMS:

Please note that our minimum quantity is six yards for $7.50 plus $3.00 maximum shipping. Order additional yardage from the menu below.

    COLORS:

For shoelace-like cord, we offer black or white.

For satin ribbon both Swiss and China- or US-made ribbon, please see the colors pictured below; as said, not all colors are in inventory. We do not accept special orders.

Note that the hue and saturation of any given color may differ, and that computer renditions of color are not always perfectly true. For example, "navy" blue that we provide may not match the "navy" blue that you envision and it may not provide an exact match with your "navy" corset.

    NOT AVAILABLE: teal

Thus, should you wish a precise color match, please snailmail us a color sample first, or request that we send you a swatch by email before placing your final order.
