S-CURVE OVERBUST LONGLINE
EDWARDIAN CORSET BY
JILL HOVERMAN

For clients interested in period-perfect patterning in the Edwardian style, also known as the 'Gibson Girl' corset, below,

Jill Hoverman created this attractive, period-perfect corset, suitable for re-enactors of the Edwardian period. The corset is produced in the standard fabric of cotton or cotton-blend pin-striped shirting fabric in blue and white as shown above, and often in other color combinations such with white such as beige, pink, and lavender. The corset is constructed in four layers of fabric and lining, and is double-boned, but shown here in single boning as the client requested. You may also order your corset produced in a solid color cotton twill for the same cost, or even one of 14 colors of our cotton-backed satin for a modest upcharge of $30.

The corset includes the pleated top binding with attached bow trim. For a modest upcharge you may add a top row of either flat, or gathered (shown) eyelet lace, as shown. Through Labor Day 2009, we are including two pair of ruched (covered) garters, as shown. After that date you may order these for a modest upcharge of $15 per pair.

The interesting s-curve of this corset style is created by side pattern pieces cut on the bias as well as by curved boning that does not follow the visible seams as it does in the more common Edwardian corset. Boning in this corset curves around the torso from back to front as shown in the graphic to the left. Clients should keep in mind that the full Edwardian silhouette shown right, requires a bustle worn under your outer garment, and for ladies with a small bust, a ruffled chemise. Also please note that the amount of curvature in your standing posture will depend on several things, including the amount of waist reduction you desire (or are able to achieve) when laced tightly, and your 'hip spring' which is the difference between your waist and hip measurement. The greater that difference, the more curvature you will achieve in this interesting corset style.

This corset (as with any overbust style ordered at ROMANTASY) includes an interim "muslin" fitting. The muslin is a "rough cut" sample corset made in a single layer of cotton muslin fabric with single (versus double) boning. It provides you an opportunity in person in San Francisco, or my mail to your location, to test and adjust
the fit before final construction.
