UNDERBUST - 1901
[Updated 11/4/13]

"I just received the 1901 blue corset. The applique design in the matching light blue beaded flowers and Czech rhinestones make it a very yummy corset! Thank you! It really is the most gorgeous garment I have ever had." Toni (11/29/11; see Toni modeling this corset below)
This notable, spiral diagonally-boned corset creates a V-shape at the waistline with a sharp "in and out" indentation. Based on a pattern shared with us by renowned corsetier Michael Garrod before he passed on, Sharon McCoy Morgan produces a style that is suitable for both men and women.

Further, it is a style typically chosen by the MTF transgender client, or by the male client desiring a masculine "V" or "Superman" torso shape, because of its excellent torso- smoothing and rib-reducing effect. You may see a man wearing his V-shaped silver and black paisley 1901 below. One of our transgender clients and friends once he discovered this style, refuses to order any other! ROMANTASY Owner Ann has two of Mr. Garrod's 1901 style corsets in her personal corset wardrobe.

In summary, this corset creates a figure silhouette known as the "ice cream cone" or "straight rib." As such, it is a bit demanding to wear and might not be the best style choice for the newcomer to corseting; Sharon's underbust Victorian is likely the better choice.

Because it is composed of a variety of pattern pieces and is rather complex, we include a cotton trial corset called a "muslin" at our location or yours. If you cannot attend our location then we send the muslin by mail with a full set of instructions on how to fit, pin and mark it. During that process you are invited to contact us or Sharon for questions.

Because of the complexity of this pattern, it is enjoyable to choose different colors and types of fabric to emphasize each section. Braid trim can render the corset elegant and feminine, while plain cotton or satin will render this corset a perfect foundation garment.
